Since 2020, the Civic Club has been participating in the MD Dept of Transportation’s Adopt-a-Highway program. The Civic Club is responsible for a one mile stretch on Route 219 in McHenry from the Burger King to the Scenic Outlook. The area is designated by a sign along the roadway.
The Environmental Group gets together three to four times a year to collect trash to keep our area of Route 219 beautiful for our residents and visitors to the area.
The official website for the Adopt a Highway program is:

The chair of the Environmental Committee keeps the Civic Club apprised of recycling opportunities and every day ideas of how to lessen our carbon footprint through the two newsletters the club puts out each year. If you are looking for information on recycling regulations in Garrett County, here is the link to the Garrett County Landfill Website:

The Environmental Committee hopes to bring attention to the fact that everyday decisions we make can have a big impact on our planet.
