Judi Merriman- President Judi is originally from New Jersey. She attended George Washington University and lived most of her 'working life' in Northern Virginia. Judi’s career included working as a legislative assistant to a California Congressman and two legislative tracking services, the latter as director of operations establishing the company’s presence in Washington, D.C. When Judi retired in 2011, she and her husband Bill decided to make Deep Creek Lake their permanent home, having bought their first house here in 1993. She joined the Civic Club in 2013 and served as Corresponding Secretary for two years and First VP for four years. She has also been a member of the Garden Club, a mentor with Garrett Mentors for six years, and currently serves on the Garrett Lakes Arts Festival Board as Events Chairman.
Lisa White- Co-First VP Lisa has been coming to Garrett County with her family since she was a child. After 38 years of teaching elementary art for Baltimore County Public Schools, she retired and moved to Mountain Lake Park. Karen Lauer introduced her to the club and she has been an active volunteer since joining the Club. Lisa gives her time to the Craft Group, The Treasure Chest, cooking and serving for The Cafe at the Antique Show. As 1st VP she will arrange for speakers at our monthly meetings.
Kathy McNerney- Co-First VP Kathy and her husband Gene bought their home on Deep Creek Lake in 2011. Once they both retired and sold their home in Calvert County, the two became full-time residents of Garrett County. In 2014 Kathy retired from the Maryland State Department of Education where she had been an administrator responsible for Federal and State Grants. A friend introduced Kathy to the Civic Club in 2016. She became involved almost immediately by agreeing to take over organizing the Raffle ticket sales. It was a busy first year learning curve, but the raffle sales were a success so Kathy kept that responsibility for another two years. She went on to become Treasurer. Her role as 1st VP will be editing & publishing the Yearbook
Karen Lauer- 2nd VP Karen moved to Garrett County four years ago after retiring as an educator for 36 years in Pennsylvania. I enjoyed teaching second grade for 25 years before taking my dream job as instructional support teacher. While living in Greensburg, PA, she served on the board of the YWCA and volunteered in the thrift shop. She also served on the board of East Suburban Citizen Advocacy. This non-profit matched a community member with an adult with special needs. For 18 years, I've mentored a mother of two children who has become a good friend. Karen is another active member of the club, volunteering at the Treasure Chest, Craft group, Warm the Children and Antique Show.
Darla Soles - Corresponding Secretary Darla grew up as an Iowa farm girl; moved to Virginia in 1976, where she lived for 40+ years. Her career as a nurse anesthetist was very challenging & fulfilling. I met my second husband & soul-mate in 2000; we discovered & fell in love with Deep Creek Lake, built a log home, & 'weekended' for 15 years before moving here full time. Darla keeps busy with friends, working out, gardening, volunteering with the American Red Cross, the Civic Club, & homeowners association.
Linda Bradley- Recording Secretary Linda is starting her second two-year term as recording secretary. After retiring from her position as a school librarian for Prince George's County Public Schools in June 2015, she and her husband Clint moved to Garrett County full time in February 2017 and that same year she joined the Civic Club.
Jean Tumbarello - Treasurer & Immediate Past President - Originally from New York, Jean has been a member since 2012. She is a retired RN.
